Do Schools Kill Creativity?

The talk is about 2 years old but the topic is infinitely interesting to me. Having ADHD is no fun, I know firsthand, that’s why I’m so interested in his work. From TEDs official webpage: Creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson challenges the way we’re educating our children. He champions a radical rethink of our school systems, to cultivate creativity and acknowledge multiple types of intelligence.

”If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.”

This is by far one of the most interesting lectures I have ever heard.

Prefab HZ House | Youmeheshe

hzhouseyoushemehe.jpg

This project from Youmeheshe Architects is an eco-friendly, carbon newtral prefab that can be delivered on two trucks. The impact that constructionshave on the environment worry the architects Simon Beames and Simon Dickens.

“You don’t have glues giving off gasses you would otherwise get,” says Beames. “They usually give off formaldehyde, which is what you preserve dead people in. People are unaware of the shortcuts and necessities of traditional fast-track building, or at least overlook them. You have this generation of people being careful about the environment, but they forget about themselves. They eat organic food, but then what are they sitting in?”

Prefabricated panels are doweled together insted of being glued and the whole house is constructed around the central core. Check out/download the pdf here.

Two recent works of the japanese architect Aoki Jun are astonishing. He’s a Tokyo University graduate and an ex co-worker of Arata Isozaki & Associates where he started his career before establishing his own studio in 1991 in Tokyo. And because I have a thing for everything japanese, I decided to push them forward here for all of you too see.
