Designed by UN Studio, Destroyed by Fire

The VilLA NM designed by the Dutch UN Studio in Bethel, upstate New York, burned to the ground Tuesday night. The site is still being investigated to determine the cause of fire but there is nothing left but a steal frame. The firefighters fought for 3 hours ; luckily nobody was hurt. The house, owned by a Russian businessman, was built in 2007 and was featured in The New York Times in October as an outstanding modern mansion. It was located on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding landscape and was used as a weekend retreat. Not that this is any more of a tragedy than any other house burning down, but as it was considered an architectural masterpiece and owned by a tycoon, I wonder why it hasn’t been hooked up with a system allowing a direct connection to the fire station.
