Konstfack Design College, Stockholm

This is a video made by RBG6 for the University College of Arts Crafts and Design in Stockholm. It was made just to remind future students that the deadline to submit applications is March 1st. Is that freaking sweet or what? What we get for that occasion is a cheesy presentation in the big hall given by the dean saying how amazing the school is. I don’t know, maybe the amazing part comes now somewhere at the end. I can’t wait to see what it is because it must be hella good. Hellafreakinawesome! :D Ah who am I kidding.

Subway And Railway Maps | Kim Ji Hwan

tokyomapzeroperzero.jpg

It may look like a spaghetti accident at first but no. These are so beautiful and really funky. Korean designer Kim Ji Hwan of the design duo Zeroperzero created these subway/railway maps of Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul. Just to put things in perspective: Tokyo alone has 365 metro stations and 1000 railway stations.

Downloadable Design | Paper Toys

dlldesign.jpg

Hooray, paper toys! This is something for your inner kid. Today you can download nearly everything from furniture to toys to home accessories. I’m giving you some links where you can simply download a .pdf template of the toy, print it and stick it together. Don’t use this as an urgent task just to avoid exams (if you have them).

Shin Tanaka - ok he is way cool and charges for some, but you can click on ‘others’ and get a template to work on.

The Ito Partnership - for the ones that need a paper goat, and I think we all need a paper goat

Nicebunny.com - Samurai Bunny is top notch.

Readymerch - for a load of sweetness (pictured above)

Flodschool - furniture (for kids. that’s you.)

Skate Study House

pierre_1.jpg

Skateboarder Pierre-André Senizergues started a shoe company 16 years ago. After moving from Brittany to California, Etnies grew. He now got to a point in his career when he teamed up with Gil Le Bon De Lapointe, an interior designer, to do some furniture pieces out of skateboards. They called the project Skate Study House (site launches next week) - modern design classics remastered with skateboards. I have to say that they look great. They will be available for purchase from Colette in Paris. Fingers crossed mine comes with Arto Saari in the box.

Fucking Recycle.

fuckingrecycle.jpg

And this is not me bitching around. The new poster collection by Becky Redman is kindly asking everybody to fucking recycle. It’s simple, it truly is. 50 posters have been screenprinted on 100% recyceled paper and posted in public. Each carries a short message that not only raises the awareness of the problem of waste but also ”provokes a sense of urgency.” She’s fucking right, ay? Fuck yeah. Fuck fuck fuckidy fuck :D That’s enough.

Elan Wins The Red Dot Design Award

elanreddotaward1.jpg

Wow - I’m so proud of them! Elan won the 2007 Red Dot Design Award in the category best Sports equipment, clothing and shoes. What got them the price is the product you can see above calld Speedwave skis. It’s a work of two in-house designers Mojca Noč and Hilda Bassanese and Gigodesign design studio. Congratulations people, well done.

Now if you’re looking for a designer for your snowboard line, I know a certain chick that’d be willing to do it. I mean I’m not naming anybody because I want her to remain anonymous. OK it’s me.  Screw it, the secret person is me.

Arrogance And Humility

arrogance.jpg

A Brief Message is a website that ” features design opinions expressed in short (no more than 200 words) form” usually written by people that know what they’re talking about. This design story is great. Simple, clear yet it shouts in your head to STFU if you’re of  the people that love to endlessly discuss design but actually know squat about it. This particular story was written by Clay Shirk and it goes as it follows:

There’s Plenty More Fish in The Sea. Right?

julialohmannsapporojapan.jpg

We’ve seen ads by Republic of Everyone before and if those didn’t strike you, nothing will. It was just a matter of time before an artist made an installation to raise the awareness of a growing problem. ”The Catch” was made by a British artist Julia Lohmann during her stay in Sapporo, Japan. Problem: 80% of the bluefin tuna caught in the Mediterranean is sold in Japan. Lohmann made a wooden structure to carry 500 fishing crates with the help of fishing wire that holds everything in place.

“The Mediterranean is at the point that if bluefin stocks are not actually collapsing, they are approaching collapse,”

The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Braun

t3ipod.jpg

These images are everywhere these days and so they end up here as well. Teehee :) Right… So I guess Apple has an older brother (from another mother). I like Apple’s design, I really do. The firm’s whole image has been built by the help of great industrial designers, but damn. What is this I see? The designer Jonathan Ive imitating Dieter Rams of Braun; could it be? I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. I mean I’m not saying that they just copied everything, but can you feel it? Oh Steve… Now you’ve spoiled it for me. But I loves you for this. You should, however, make one with a 15 inch screen. Oh what’s that? Oh we’ll work on that together later. Gotcha.
