April 22nd | Earth Day

From 1970, when the first Earth Day was marked on the calenders after massive demonstrations on the environment in 1969, until today, people still did the Earth a lot of wrong. Yet the day is here and it’s a reminder to treat our planet carefully so that our children can inherit all the tastes, smells and sights that we get to enjoy. For the love of them, walk the walk.

“If all the insects on earth disappeared, within fifty years all life on Earth would disappear. If all humans disappeared, within fifty years life on Earth would flourish as never before.”

Bryghusgrunden Project | OMA

So I decide not to write anything about Dubai, Zaha, Gehry (!?), Nouvel or the Milano Design Week and all of a sudden - there’s absolutely nothing to post. Any of you fucking pricks write more news about Milano Design Week and I’ll execute every motherfucking last one of you. (Was that.. too harsh? Pulp Ficiton style?  *pretty smile*  I like ponies.) I mean it’s mad. It’s been all mad - the pre-pre 2007 Milano, the pre Milano, the right before omg omfg Milano, the right freaking now Milano and I’m sure the after Milano madness will clog the internets as well. So out I dug one bit of news that might interest you…

Right… So this is the newest addition to the Copenhagen waterfront. OMA designed (and I’ll stop using that verb in sentences containing ‘OMA’ pretty soon, I think) a new building that will house ”new facilities for the Danish Architecture Center (DAC), the headquarters of the Realdania Foundation, along with a distinctive mix of residential units, public program and playground facilities.” I’m not sure what to make of this one. Do I like it, will it work? I like blocks stacked together, I do. But I’m a little disappointed in the Office for Metropolitan Architecture lately, it seems to me like they could do so much better. At least it’s not that violent.

Let’s End The Day With Taylor

”When you want that enchalada and it’s filled up with nada, that’s the time when you should really.. be upset because you’re hungry”. :D

Always makes me chuckle. PS: Donovan is hot shut up it’s my blog.

Our Crap In Space

Oh. Fuck. These are the ESA (European Space Agency) images of the debris humans sent into space from Sputnik to January 1st, 2008. We are an extremely freaking disgusting species. How the hell will we ever clean all this mess up? This makes me wanna throw up.

”Between the launch of Sputnik on 4 October 1957 and 1 January 2008, approximately 4600 launches have placed some 6000 satellites into orbit, of which about 400 are travelling beyond geostationary orbit or on interplanetary trajectories.
Today, it is estimated that only 800 satellites are operational - roughly 45 percent of these are both in LEO and GEO. Space debris comprise the ever-increasing amount of inactive space hardware in orbit around the Earth as well as fragments of spacecraft that have broken up, exploded or otherwise become abandoned. About 50 percent of all trackable objects are due to in-orbit explosion events (about 200) or collision events (less than 10).”

Leaf | Lime Studio

The Leaf is a rocking chair designed by the UK based Lime Studio. The construction is basically made out of two pieces of curved birch plywood padded with a high density cushion that’s wrapped in removable, washable fabric. How sweet is this? Simple, beautiful, comfortable and rocks you to sleep. I love you Leaf. I. Love. You.

A House Among Trees | Martín Fernández de Lema

There isn’t much information about this project but it’s amazing and I’ll post the photos I found. The house is situated in a forest site on the beach of Mar Azul, Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was designed by Martín Fernández de Lema and that’s pretty much all I know. Here’s a slideshow of Archinect photos and a (pretty bad but okay) video. I hope I’ll get to see this baby in person and if not, I’ll have to use my emergency semi-automatic on my non-architectural co-traveler friends *pretty smile*.

Haus H | Syntax Architektur

Designed by Syntax Architektur and completed in 2007, the H house is now a family owned home in Hadersfeld, Austria, that’s been transformed from an old inn. The inn was renovated and now offers the best views from the house but in addition to the existing building, two new volumes were built by the entrance. The idea of the project was to keep the existing trees and place the new structure around them. That yielded a unique design that makes the house look as though it’s crawling into the nature. The copper roof slowly touches the ground at one point where a private terrace is formed. The white walls were painted that way with the purpose of making contrast between the man-made and the nature. All in all, a project that really respects the site and that’s what it really comes down to.

Good Quotes: Anäis Nin

”A good friend is a connection to life - a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world.”

A massive thank you to all of my friends for the BIG weekend and for always being there. You are my family and I love you.

Guggenheim Hermitage Museum | Zaha Hadid

I usualy wouldn’t do this but… Zaha Hadid Architects won the competition to design the new Guggenheim Hermitage Museum in Vilnius, Lithuania, overtaking the boys - Daniel Libeskind and Massimiliano Fuksas, somewhere along the line, where the Guggenheim Foundation and the State Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg, Russia, both agreed that her design was the best damn thing to happen to the city. The building will be the new international art centre and will house works of art from collections of the NYC Salomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the St. Petersburg based State Hermitage Museum. I just… I don’t know. I’m so bored.

Orquideorama | Sustainable Botanical Garden

The town of Medellin, Colombia, got another architectural addition. First the Leon De Greiff library and now a new installation in the existing botanical garden - Jardin Botanico de Medellin. The renovation was done by Plan B architects and the idea was to make a structure that looks like trees growing together at the branches. The strucutre is modular and made out of steel and resembles the honeycomb. The plants at the feet of the trunks are being watared through the roof and at the same time protected by the pine wood weave. The project serves as a showrrom, concert area and an exposition area. So beautiful.
